| Eddie Lockjaw Davis : Cookbook, Vol. 1 (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster) |
Flutist-tenor and baritone saxophonist Jerome Richardson was added to Eddie Lockjaw Davis's quartet with organist Shirley Scott, bassist George Duvuvier and drummer Arthur Edgehill for several sessions in 1958. The result was a steady diet of great standards and swinging bluesy originals that produced four albums: three volumes of "The Eddie Lockjaw Davis Cookbook" and "Smokin'". Lockjaw's gruff sound, emotive style and irresistible swing are infectious. Great stuff.

| Ike Quebec : It Might As Well Be Spring (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster) |
| Two weeks after Ike Quebec recorded his comeback album Heavy Soul for Blue Note, he was back at the Van Gelder studio with same band (Freddie Roach, Milt Hinton and Al Harewood), making a second album. The confidence paid off because It Might As Well Be Spring is every bit the classic the first album proved to be. Quebec's big-toned, vulnerable tenor playing is a thing to behold, as his heart-stopping version of the title tune, "Lover Man" and "Willow Weep For Me" attest. "Easy - Don't Hurt" is one of his blues masterpieces. |

| A visit to Brazil prompted Horace Silver's interest in his Portuguese roots and led to the magnificent "Song For My Father," his most enduring composition.
Horace Silver introduced his new quintet with Joe Henderson and Carmell Jones on four tracks of this album. Each became a classic: the title tune, "The Natives Are Restless Tonight," "Que Pasa" and "The Kicker." | Stanley Turrentine : Never Let Me Go (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster) |
Stanley Turrentine and Shirley Scott were more than a musical team in the sixties; they were husband and wife. This album spawned two classic performances - their versions of Lloyd Price's "Trouble" and Billie Holiday's "God Bless The Child". Scott and Turrentine were that rare breed who blended technique, musical intelligence and soulfulness to make music that had it all. One bonus track has been added to the original album. STANLEY TURRENTINE, tenor sax; SHIRLEY SCOTT, organ;
MAJOR HOLLEY (#1-5,7), SAM JONES (#7-8), bass;

| McCoy Tyner : The Real McCoy (Rudy Van Gelder Remaster) |
| McCoy Tyner, the great pianist, emerged as a great composer on the amazing session with Joe Henderson, Ron Carter and Coltrane bandmate Elvin Jones. All five distinctive compositions have become jazz standards. A perfect record and an essential one too.
In a 2006 JazzTimes career retrospective, McCoy said, "It was the first album I had done as a leader after leaving John's band…..And a lot of what I learned from him transferred to that recording. So I was sort of inspired when I wrote tunes like "Search For Peace" and "Passion Dance" and "Blues On The Corner." |
